STEPHAN ACH
Stephan Ach (Essen, Germany, 1958): grew up surrounded by the world of art. It was in photography that he discovered his true talent and artistic expression. He graduated from the School of Art and Photography of Munich in 1982 and he has worked actively in the fashion world between New York, Munich, Paris, Barcelona and Miami. In 2000, he also studied at the New York Film Academy to explore the cinematographic world.
Philosophers, mathematicians, scientists and men of letters have rationalized the world in order to understand it. And so we have explanations about the visual world. But what is there behind the world we see? If we pay attention, we can see them behind every exposed photograph.
For Stephan, the visual world we see is just the surface layer of what lies behind. He believes that behind every photograph lies a parallel world. By peeling away the first layer of visual reality, we can experience the beautiful sensation of the magic behind life.
Provided that this process of finding magic is contemplative and personal, the showing of Stephen Ach tends to an apparent calm. From this tranquility, unadulterated, the spectator can appreciate what emerges from behind the photograph.
His work also searches for moments of unbalance and disorientation. In his pictures, a small percentage can be easily recognized. But most part of the image is blurry and hazy. Therefore, the artist perplexes us and encourages us to find a meaning to the imprecise. Without realizing, we find ourselves in the midst of a creative process.
All in all, Stephan Ach invites us to enjoy his pictures and also to have in mind these parallel worlds where the magic of connecting with one’s true self supplies life with a new beauty. Each moment is unique. Our glance is centered in the now as an intense and peaceful way of living, accepting the uncertainty as an opportunity to live a creative process to find new meanings. In short, Stephan Ach not only affords an aesthetic proposal, but also a fresh perspective on how we can understand the world around us.

PARALLEL WORLDS, EN LA GALERÍA MIGUEL MARCOS DE BARCELONA, MAYO 22 – JUNIO 30 DE 2014
La Galería Miguel Marcos de Barcelona presenta PARALLEL WORLDS, una retrospectiva de la obra reciente de Stephan Ach. La muestra recoge series que el artista ha presentado en Miami y México, como Joropo, Spiral of Seduction (2012), The World Within (2013) o Visible Calm (2013). A la muestra se han añadido nuevas piezas en las que el artista ha estado trabajando recientemente.
Stephan Ach nos muestra en esta exposición de la Galería Miguel Marcos que existen mundos paralelos. Si ponemos atención, podemos verlos detrás de cada una de las fotografías expuestas.
Los mundos paralelos detrás del mundo visual, en palabras del artista, se encuentran en el camino hacia la magia de la vida que es, a su vez, un camino hacia uno mismo: cuando eres uno con tu ser verdadero, con el resto del mundo y con lo divino en ti, se produce un momento mágico. Y es así como, despojándonos de la primera capa de realidad visual, obtenemos “la bella sensación de lo mágico detrás de la vida”.
PLAYGROUND EN LA GALERÍA MIGUEL MARCOS, DURANTE ARCO MADRID 2014
La obra reciente PLAYGROUND se presentó dentro de la pasada edición de ARCO MADRID 2014. Una serie compuesta por tres fotografías de gran formato que plantea una metáfora de como al crecer experimentamos y disfrutamos plenamente de la vida, de una manera descomplicada, sin miedos ni controles, de forma clara y transparente, sin ataduras, ni expectativas.
Playground nos introduce a un espacio abierto, al atardecer, con personas sin sombras, sin cuerpos en tres dimensiones, como extras de una película.
VISIBLE CALM EN LA GALERÍA MYTO DURANTE ZONA MACO 2014
Durante la pasada edición de Zona MACO 2014, del 5 al 9 de Febrero, la Galería MYTO de Ciudad de México presentó una muestra individual enfocada en la serie “Visible Calm” de Stephan Ach. La serie, compuesta por 6 fotografías de gran formato, consiste en imágenes de algunos rincones de selvas tropicales que el artista ha estado fotografiando en sus viajes a México

ZONA MACO (Mexico Arte Contemporáneo) the art fair of Mexico, has become the most important contemporary art window into Latin America. In its 10th edition, the fair has presented the latest expressions of national and international contemporary art.
Stephan Ach’s recent work “The World Within” has been selected by renowned MYTO Gallery to be part of its installation BORDERS. Six contemporary artists has been selected to create a special exhibition, where themes as the function of space in art, the relation between in & out and the limits that defines them are explored.
The World Within, as Ach himself explains, is “a medium of transformation and recreate our first moments of existence. Neither stiff nor unrestrained, only blurred, a vibrating form. Being reborn, not yet separated from our “Me” and the outside world! The state of being an embryo, our existence as an unity of in and out, floating in a world of liquid. In balance.”
STEPHAN ACH’S WORK DURING ART PALM BEACH
During past December 2012 was held the 15th edition of Art Palm Beach, where The Zone Gallery participated exhibiting the work “Joropo, Spiral of Seduction”, by Stephan Ach.
ArtPalmBeach Contemporary Art Fair is an annual “must see” event for the Palm Beaches. The fair is considered one of the most influential contemporary art fairs on Florida’s Gold Coast by critics, collectors and art enthusiasts since its founding in 1997.
In celebration of Art Palm Beach’s 15 anniversary, the fair has invited a number of internationally renowned art historians, critics, museum directors, curators and artists to engage the public in dynamic conversations and thought provoking presentations. This year the fair has also invited back more than 70 internationally acclaimed art galleries that specialize in painting, sculpture, photography, design, fine art glass, video and installation art.
